• About & Rules

Premiere is a new eternal Magic: The Gathering format that celebrates the game’s history.

While inspired by Legacy, Premiere excludes supplemental and Commander products. Think of all the cards you could play in Premiere that could never make it in Legacy.

    — If a card was ever legal in Standard, it is legal in Premiere. —

~ Legacy-legal Portal, Starter, and Revised cards are legal in Premiere. ~

Cards that go through Standard are presumed to have been tested by Wizards of the Coast for 1v1 gameplay.

    Why Premiere?

The goal of Premiere is to create a competitive 1v1 experience untainted by the power creep of supplemental products and 4-player designs from Commander products.

Premiere is not intended as a Legacy replacement, but rather a Legacy alternative. The impetus to create Premiere is Wizards of the Coast’s continued failure to effectively curate Legacy.

    • Preserve Eternal 1v1 Play
      • Legacy is one of MTG’s richest formats, but it has become increasingly shaped by Commander and Modern Horizons’ designs. Premiere removes those distortions.
    • Reward Skill and Mastery
      • By removing overpowered supplemental products, Premiere should have the breath for players to have more influence, both in-game and in deck building.
    • A Balanced Eternal
      • Premiere isn’t reinventing the wheel; it’s Legacy without the baggage.
      • Expect decks of Legacy’s past and new strategies/archetypes current Legacy does not allow for.

    Proxy Policy

As an unsanctioned, community-created format, Premiere is proxy-friendly.

Tournament organizers are encouraged to allow proxies (i.e., playtest cards) and provide what is acceptable quality for proxies.
